‘It’s about putting everything together in just the right amount,’ designer Miazga says

There’s no question that the look of a man in a sharply tailored suit can be eye-catching — for women and men alike.
So when Michelle Miazga of Port + Quarter Design took on the design of the display suite at Novella, Springbank Properties’ new community in Coquitlam, she took her inspiration from the classic lines of fine menswear.
In the suite’s kitchen, for instance, Port + Quarter blended a large dark green tile with white and wood cabinets and light floors.
“We wanted to feature the different layers that all come together to form an ensemble, so the darker cabinets would be the base, the uppers and countertops more like the dress shirt and the tiles the tie and pocket square. It’s about putting everything together in just the right amount,” she says.
It may come as little surprise that Miazga and her business partner, Kyla Ray, launched the Gastown-based Port + Quarter with a specialty in men’s home decor.
Much like a good tailor, Miazga tends to the details, and classic looks for long-standing quality.
“We tend to design with a classic, tailored feel for all of the hard goods (floors, cabinets, counters etc.) so that in 10 years, you’re still going to love the finishes.”
